Here I am using a metal X-acto knife, already sterilized in the flame of an alcohol lamp, for cutting a chunk of agar from a peroxide plate to transfer the mushroom mycelium to a jar of 10-minute spawn, all in the open air. The photograph exaggerates the size of the halo of mycelium on the plate. The organism is Hericium erinaceus (Lions Mane).[Next]
